Master Your Tools and Grow Your Business, Possible?
Netrepreneurs should know their tools. No, not in a way that you know how to program it. At the very least, you have to know what it could do more efficiently than other tools.
Blog software such as WordPress is an example. I never know anything that allows you to publish online content faster, fully under your control and without any monthly fee for the service.
The fact that you could add plugin and extend features at the same time means you could do a whole lot more than what the blog software was designed for. When it comes to design, you can switch from one layout or design to another with theme. Add and remove blocks with widget.
Many Internet marketers don’t know that WordPress, for instance, is more than just a web application to create blogs.
What could it cost you if you don’t know how to make use of it?
You may still use the old web site template to build your new site. For the long run, not only it is not scalable, but also takes a lot of your precious time to build.
Imagine having to change layout. How about modifying navigation bar across all the HTML files? The list of problems and complexity go up exponentially as your site grows in number of pages.
That really wastes time.
The same time that you could use for other more important aspects of your business. If you consider hiring, you may be spending monies that otherwise could be used to drive more traffic and generate more leads for your business.
Tools are indeed important. That’s why so many marketers focus on them.
However, finding the right tools is only useful if you have the end goal in mind. Without implementation, you may have the best tool on the earth but that’s of no use until you build something with it.
You may be like me, easily distracted and addicted to tools. There is nothing wrong with perfecting your business tools. In some ways, that may help you compete and fatten your profit margin.
My own rule of thumb is to limit my time on playing with tools to a few hours on the weekend. With a bit of discipline, you will get more things done with the tools and soon enough once you know how it feels to get things done with the tools, you won’t go back.
