The Secret Sauce to Content Marketing

Rather than building the intensity, I’ll tell you the secret upfront.

There is no secret sauce.

You can stop reading now, or go on reading. The latter, however, may free you up from the ever growing frustration of looking for the key to success in content production, blogging or whatever online endeavor you’re involved in.

I blogged about it for a few times now, but it’s worth repeating. If there is a secret to building and growing your blog, it is to take action.

Fail fast, learn from it. Adjust your strategy. And go on.

If you wait for discovery of the key to floodgates of traffic, perhaps you will have to wait for another decade or so, when at that point the strategy has been rendered obsolete.

Content marketing is no different.

Some marketers are looking for the secret sauce to creating viral content. Others wish they could discover how to make their content more powerful by sprinkling a word or two in the content, i.e. the shortcut to copywriting.

The problem is, there really is no such thing.

Stop thinking viral. If you focus on creating what people want and make it easy to spread and distribute information, they will do it.

A guest post of mine recently got close to 300 retweets. Far from viral. But I’m more than happy with the momentum. Rather than waiting for the right time to publish, I decided long time ago that I should publish often.

It’s NOT a situation when you have to reach a million people or nothing.

Moreover, I learn a lot of from the process and can better adjust it in the future.

Well, some people are talented. People adore their personality. But that’s not the secret either because there is nothing that says you must do it that way.

The secret sauce to content marketing is different for everyone, so can we call it “the” secret or key?

For me, it is about depth of thoughts and organized content. My students who subscribe to my e-course know that and label myself as an organized teacher. Flattering, but I don’t mind at all.

For others, it might be timely information.

But what we don’t realize is that actually the secret is combination of tens, if not hundreds, of factors. From personal branding to your content, reachability through social media sites, interaction in Twitter, and a bunch of others.

What is your secret sauce to content marketing? That’s up to you to discover.

The good news is, it is an interesting journey for everyone.
